Introducing Finland's First 100 % Oat Pasta


A unique collaboration between Luke and Leivon Leipomo led to the creation of Finland's first 100% oat pasta. Luke brought their experience in oat research and pilot scale experiments to Leivon Leipomo.

Reducing the Nutrient Load to the Baltic Sea through Sustainable Cooperation


The Baltic Sea suffers from eutrophication, with part of the nutrient emissions originating from agriculture. The SuMaNu project coordinated by Luke established recommendations for more sustainable use of manure and nutrients in the Baltic Sea Region.

Closer-to-nature Forest Management Approaches in Finnish Forest Management

The European Commission Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 proposes to continue and further develop biodiversity-friendly practices, such as closer-to-nature-forestry, to achieve the ambitious biodiversity targets. This recently published report reviews the elements in Finnish forest legislation, PEFC-forest certification scheme and forest management guidelines that are related to and support closer-to-nature forest management practices.

Continuous Cover Forestry Maintains Carbon Sinks of Nutrient-rich Drained Peatland Forests


A recent study by Luke, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Eastern Finland analysed the effects of different forest management practices on timber production, ecosystem net primary production and emission of greenhouse gases in nutrient-rich peatlands drained for forestry in southern Finland.

MSc Dongxia Wu’s dissertation designed and implemented experiments to provide solutions for the appropriate precondition of economically important species in forestry and horticulture.

The Technology Developed by Luke Makes the Marine Containers Efficient Fish Farms


Luke has developed a fish farming method in which sea containers can be efficiently utilized as fish farming units. The unit includes both a fish tank and the necessary water recycling technology. The container-based modular solution enables scalable plug-and-play farm solutions.
